David M. Lawrence, AIA, LEED BD+C has been working in the Architecture industry since his first internship with Manhattan-based Charles H. Henkels, Architects in 2011. He worked closely with the firm’s principal for several years and gained a wealth of knowledge from the experience that has helped to shape his design strategies.
A New Jersey native, born and raised in Middlesex County, he attended New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture professional degree as well as his Master of Science in Architecture. NJIT is rated as the top Architecture School in New Jersey and in the top 10 in the Northeastern United States. His interest in architecture (and historic architecture in particular) was piqued when visiting a Lawrence family home as a child that was built in 1690 and is now a historic house museum located in Union County, New Jersey.
Another avenue of education that David has used to form his design strategy is travel. David has traveled to many places in order to increase his knowledge of architecture, including across the United States, Latin America, Northern, Southern and Western Europe, as well as Turkey.
In his free time, David spends a lot of time in the great outdoors. He is an avid nature enthusiast and enjoys camping, hiking, running, fishing, and boating. This has led to him being a self-described “environmentalist,” causing him to always strive to design spaces that are as energy efficient and environmentally sensitive as possible.
He also loves literature, film, and the visual arts. Lastly, but certainly not least, David is a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Karen B. Lawrence. They are mutually supportive of each other’s personal and career goals and strive to be a partnership throughout all areas of life. With a business and legal background, Karen is essential to the operations of the firm and strives to help build the business while making sure it runs efficiently.
